The Triumph
Gold mines, legends and giant cacti
Service Description
Nestled in the mountains of southern Baja California, the old mining town of El Triunfo holds within its silent streets the echoes of a golden age. Today, with barely three hundred inhabitants, it seems like a ghost town, but in the 19th century it was a prosperous place that attracted thousands of miners drawn by the gold rush. On this tour, we will explore the vestiges of that history: The old mines, where we will discuss the gold rush in Baja California Sur and the harsh living conditions of those years. The legend of the clairvoyant girl Winter, a local tale that adds a touch of mysticism to the town's history. The English and Chinese cemeteries, witnesses to the cultural diversity that mining brought with it. The Silver Route Museum, which preserves objects and stories from the mining era. The experience is enhanced by tasting a typical regional meal at a local restaurant—featuring flavors like the traditional machaca burrito—before continuing to a unique destination: the El Rosario Cactus Sanctuary. This space is dedicated to the conservation of these emblematic plants of Mexico and the peninsula, where we will learn about their ecological, cultural, and medicinal importance, and walk among giant cacti that seem to guard the memory of the desert. Duration: 7 hours Price: $2500 MXN per person (minimum 2 people) Includes entrance fees to the mines and the Silver Route Museum, lunch at a local restaurant, entrance to the Cactus Sanctuary, round-trip transportation from La Paz, and a certified guide.
